Outstanding WHU Doctoral Student Selected for Prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Germany
Date:2025-11-05

Xia Qiwei, a 2024 doctoral candidate at Wuhan University supervised by Professor Fang Yingfeng, has been selected to participate in the 8th Lindau Meeting of Economic Sciences in Germany. His participation follows a rigorous selection process jointly conducted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Sino-German Science Center, with full funding provided by the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings Foundation.

The selection program, established through a memorandum of understanding between the Sino-German Science Center and the Lindau Foundation, has enabled outstanding Chinese doctoral students to attend the prestigious academic event since 2004. The Lindau Meetings represent a premier global academic platform where young researchers engage in direct dialogue with Nobel laureates, fostering cross-cultural understanding and scientific exchange.

During the event, Xia Qiwei had the valuable opportunity to interact with distinguished Nobel laureates including Professor Simon Johnson (2024 Nobel Prize in Economics) and Professor James Heckman (2000 Nobel Prize in Economics). These encounters provided exceptional platforms for academic exchange and intellectual inspiration.

In recent years, the School of Economics and Management has consistently prioritized doctoral education through expanded international training channels and enhanced support for global academic engagement. The school remains committed to building high-level platforms that enable students to access international stages, engage with world-leading scholars, and demonstrate the academic impact of WHU's talent development on the global research frontier.
