On October 25–26, 2025, the 38th National Symposium on Socialist Economic Theory and Practice was held at Wuhan University. The event was organized by the National Symposium Leadership Group, hosted by the School of Economics and Management at Wuhan University, and co-organized by the Wuhan University Center for Socialist Political Economy with Chinese Characteristics, the Wuhan University Economic Development Research Center, and the Economic Review Journal. Nearly 300 experts and scholars from over 60 universities and research institutions, along with editors from more than 10 renowned academic journals and publishing houses, participated in the symposium. The program included an opening ceremony, deans’ forum, parallel sessions, and a closing ceremony.

The opening ceremony on the morning of October 25 was presided over by Professor Nie Jun, Dean of the School of Economics and Management. Addresses were delivered by Secretary Zhu Kongjun on behalf of Wuhan University, Secretary Liu Aiguo representing the Hubei Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, and Professor Pang Jinju speaking for the National Symposium Leadership Group.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the ninth "Xinghua Outstanding Paper Award." Established in 2016 through a donation by the late Professor Wei Xinghua, recipient of the national honorary title "People’s Educator," the award recognized six winning papers this year. Professor Huang Taiyan, Secretary-General of the symposium and former President of Minzu University of China, announced the winners, and Professor Hong Yinxing presented the awards.

Following the award ceremony, the first plenary session took place, moderated by Professor Zhang Yu of Renmin University and Professor Huang Taiyan of Minzu University. Fifteen distinguished scholars delivered keynote speeches aligned with the symposium’s theme.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Jian Xinhua of Wuhan University delivered concluding remarks. Professor Hong Yinxing, Head of the Symposium Leadership Group, presented a commemorative plaque to the School of Economics and Management and announced that the 39th symposium will be hosted by Lingnan College at Sun Yat-sen University. Professor Lin Jianhao, Dean of Lingnan College, accepted the symposium flag and gave an address.
